How to Earn 60 PDUs Towards PMP Renewal in 2026

60 PDUs for PMP renewal 2026

QUICK ANSWER: To renew your PMP you need 60 PDUs every three-year cycle plus a renewal fee (US$60 members / US$150 non-members). At least 35 PDUs must be Education, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each Talent Triangle area — Ways of Working, Power Skills, and Business Acumen. The fastest route is a single pre-approved online course that delivers all 60 PDUs and reports them for you.

What is a PDU, and how many do I need?

A PDU is a Professional Development Unit — one hour of learning or professional activity that PMI recognizes toward keeping your certification current. For the PMP credential, the requirement is:

  • 60 PDUs per 3-year Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) cycle
  • A minimum of 35 Education PDUs
  • A maximum of 25 Giving Back PDUs
  • A renewal fee paid to PMI at the end of the cycle

You can earn all 60 through Education if you prefer — that’s the simplest path, and it’s why most PMs renew with a single course bundle.

The PMI Talent Triangle: where your PDUs must fall

Your 35+ Education PDUs have to spread across three areas, with at least 8 PDUs in each:

Talent Triangle area What it covers Minimum PDUs
Ways of Working Predictive, agile, hybrid methods; tools and techniques 8
Power Skills Leadership, communication, collaboration, empathy 8
Business Acumen Strategy, business/industry knowledge, alignment to value 8

That’s 24 PDUs accounted for by the minimums; the rest can go to any area. A good renewal course maps its content across all three so you never come up short.

The free ways to earn PDUs (and their limits)

You can assemble 60 PDUs for little or no cash — it just costs time and record-keeping:

  1. PMI membership webinars & PMI.org content — free on-demand webinars, ~1 PDU each.
  2. Free provider webinars — many training companies run free PDU webinars year-round.
  3. Reading & self-directed learning — books, articles, and podcasts count as Education PDUs.
  4. Giving Back — up to 25 PDUs from volunteering, mentoring, presenting, or working as a practitioner (the “working” sub-category is capped at 8).
  5. Chapter events — local PMI chapter meetings often carry PDUs.

The catch: free PDUs are scattered, slow to accumulate, and you track every hour and category yourself. Miss a Talent Triangle minimum and PMI can reject the cycle.

The fast way: a pre-approved 60 PDU bundle

A 60 PDU bundle is a single online course, pre-approved by PMI, that delivers the full 60 PDUs already mapped across the Talent Triangle — usually self-paced, no exam, with guided reporting.

How to report your 60 PDUs on PMI’s CCRS

  1. Log in to PMI.org and open the CCRS.
  2. Click Report PDUs and choose the activity category.
  3. Enter the provider, activity name, dates, and PDUs by Talent Triangle area.
  4. Submit — pre-approved course PDUs are typically accepted automatically.
  5. Once you’ve logged 60 PDUs and your cycle is ending, pay the renewal fee.

How much does PMP renewal cost in 2026?

Two costs: the PDUs (free up to a few hundred dollars depending on route) and the PMI renewal feeUS$60 for members, US$150 for non-members. Because non-members pay $90 more, PMI membership often pays for itself.
